What is a thermodynamic system? What are the different types of thermodynamic systems?
A thermodynamic system is a specific region of space or a quantity of matter on which we focus our attention for analysis. There are three main types:
- Open System: Can exchange both matter and energy with the surroundings.
- Closed System: Can exchange energy (heat and work) with the surroundings, but not matter.
- Isolated System: Cannot exchange either matter or energy with the surroundings.
