Is board exam marks matter in taking admission in NITS

Yes definitely it matters a lot according to the new criteria.
You need to have an aggregate marks of 75% in class 12th board exams or your marks should be under top 20 percentile of your respective board for general category students.While for sc/st category students you need to score a minimum aggregate marks of 65% in class 12th board exams to be eligible for admission in NITs or IIITs or IITs.
