Is category rank important for admission?

Dear aspirant,
Category rank if your key to getting a seat if you can prove you belong to that specific category.
See there are separate seats for SC/St/obc and others. Everyone can contest in the general category seats that's your common rank. But the reserved category seats are special as there out of other similar category students you'll be ranked
Example : let's say you scored 100/120 and your normal general rank is 20
But in the reserved category you are the only kid who has scored 100 so your rank in the reserved category stands #1 and you'll be entitled first to get the seats in reserved category.
This can be a make or break factor many times. Assuming a college has 19 seats for general and since you were the 20th you won't get into that college but 8 reserved seats are also available and since you are #1 u can pick one seat in the same college where your general rank couldn't get you that seat.
