In Karnataka, the EWS quota applies only to central government jobs and educational institutions, as per the notification issued on May 14. The Centre in January announced a 10% quota for economically backward sections in the general category and kept out of the reservation scheme meant for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and Other Backward Classes which account for 50% of reservation.
