In a partial solution to the ongoing controversy over awarding of degrees, the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) will now issue degrees in the open and distance learning (ODL) mode in six courses, including 'retail & fashion merchandise' and 'footwear design & production' on the basis of an MoU signed in 2015 with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
