Dear Student,
HC Verma is the best book to prepare for JEE Mains. But if you are preparing for JEE Advance also, then HC Verma is not enough. You need some other books like IE Irodov Physics etc. For JEE Mains this book is sufficient. But at first, start from NCERT. When your NCERT gets completed only then move to HC Verma. HC verma book has appropriate theory and very good problems for practice. Also the key factor in getting good marks in JEE Mains is, solving the previous year papers. More the papers you solve, the better your confidence will be and, hence your score will gets improved.
So overall, for physics ,start from NCERT, then move to HC Verma and after that, solve previous year papers.
Hope this helps.
