You have two options one you can go for 12th or for diploma after 12th. But if you want to go for engineering than, you can go for it from now, after diploma even, you can get job. But if you are passionate for other things, then go for 12th.
Placement wise mechanical is very good. There are many recruiters for mechanical engineers. So you can go for it.
