Is it better to pursue MBBS from India or abroad? Which option would be good in the long term?

As per my view there are many renowned institutions in India which are great for mbbs and I don't think it is necessary to go abroad since our country has great colleges to study. Moreover, suppose if you do your degree from abroad like let's say from Phillipines that degree has no value in india. You have to work in abroad only. So, if you don't mind or have any problem to go abroad then you can opt.

Secondly , the ROI factor in abroad in your single mbbs degree you really need to be financially strong as it would cost you around 70-80 L and in india definitely the cost is low as compared to abroad.

So, I would suggest you pursue your mbbs degree from india.

The medical education scenario in India has undergone a radical transformation since the last few years. The NEET UG examination which has recently replaced the decades-old AIPMT has become the single gateway for admission to MBBS courses.

As per the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) figures for NEET 2017, the exam offered 65,170 MBBS seats across 470 medical colleges and 25,730 BDS seats across 308 dental colleges. Other than NEET UG, students also have the option of appearing in AIIMS and JIPMER examinations for admissions to a total of 907 seats in MBBS courses across 9 campuses combined.

India is also witnessing the emergence of research in new domains like biomedical engineering, nuclear medicine, radiology, forensic medicine, genetics and aerospace medicine. All these career options are poised to yield significant benefits in the long run. The prospects of MBBS with specialisations in different verticals at the post-graduation level are quite bright.

Moreover, an MBBS degree in India from a good Government college costs much less than that of in countries like China, Russia, European Union and the United States, ranging from anywhere between Rs. 1000 per annum to Rs. 1,00,000 per annum. India is an emerging bright spot for medical education and research in the long run.

Russia and China are the two major international destinations for Indian medical students aspiring for a foreign degree. Some prominent universities in Russia offering MBBS are Saint Petersburg Medical University, Volgograd Medical University, Tver State Medical Academy and Kazan State Medical University. Many Chinese universities like the Huazhong University of Science & Technology, Jilin University and Nanjing Medical University also offer MBBS courses. The cost of a foreign degree usually ranges between Rs. 20 lakhs and Rs. 60 lakhs to be paid throughout the timespan of the entire course, similar to many private medical colleges in India.

One obstacle for graduates from foreign medical colleges is that they are required to compulsorily clear the rigorous Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), a screening test held by the Medical Council of India to determine whether the returning student is qualified for practice and further studies in India, a process which students who have completed their MBBS studies in India can skip.

Although on the other hand, studying abroad has the advantage of allowing the medical aspirant to experience new cultures, ideas and ways of learning. Both choices have their pros and cons and it is ultimately up to the aspirant to take the choice one is comfortable with after careful research.
