Greetings.
No, it is not necessary that you have to give both JEE main examinations, i.e. January and April. However, it is allowed that a candidate can give both the examinations in the same year. JEE main allows a candidate to take three attempts. So, it depends entirely upon the candidate which exam he prefers to give.
