Is opting ba hold good for perusing IAS?
Hi aspirant
There are students opting various streams of study and later on when they decide to go for IAS ,there might be slight effect due to your graduation.Like doctors who opt MBBS before IAS ,Engineers who opted B.Tech/B.E ,CAs who opt B.Com .There can be anyone opting anything.
If you are clear about preparing for IAS and you wish to prepare it from your graduation you can choose subjects like history hons, economics hons,Polity honors .These subjects are predominantly asked in UPSC exam.
Even if you don't choose all of these subjects in your graduation you will have to prepare these subjects.
UPSC
Paper1:Essay writing
Paper 2: General Studies – I (Indian Heritage & Culture, History & Geography of the World & Society)
Paper 3: General Studies – II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice & International Relations)
Paper 4: General Studies – III (Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Security & Disaster Management)
Paper 5: Ethics, Integrity & Aptitude)
Paper 6& 7 are optional .You can choose anything but rest of the papers are common for everyone .So you can decide whether you want to prepare it from your graduation or not.And choose your graduation subjects on the basis of these UPSC papers.
All the best.
Opting for an arts programme definitely adds to your chances of qualifying the UPSC exam but if you are going for it just to crack the exam I'd suggest you otherwise. If you don't like the subject you are pursuing your graduation in then it doesn't need an Einstein to tell that you won't do well. You can give and qualify the exam even by taking up a science subject.
Hope this helps!
