Is taking forensic science better than biotechnology after 12
Dear Vedant,
Let's look at the advantages of both the subjects before deciding which one is better than the other. Let's go one-by-one. Firstly, forensic science is basically the application of science to investigate and solve crimes. In BSc (Forensic Science), you study all about crime scene investigation using modern inputs like instrumentation techhniques, DNA profiling, fingerprints and document examination etc. There is a lot of career scope in India as the crime graph is always going up. Central agencies like NIA, CBI and state police departments are the main recruiters in the government sector. Other recruiters include forensic science labs, detective agencies, law firms, pharma companies etc.
Now let's look at biotechnology. It is all about using biological processes, organisms and systems to manufacture products intended to improve the quality of life. For example, blood glucose meter that measures the glucose concentration in blood. In this field you can go for either 4-year B.Tech or 3-year BSc. B.Tech focuses on biological as well as engineering aspects of biology while a BSc degree focuses on bilogical sciences. Biotechnology is not confined to making drugs. It has a variety of roles ranging from sales and marketing to research and development.
So compare for yourself these two subjects and decide for yourself what to pursue, depending on what interests you the most. However, if your aim is to get a job immediately on completing your degree, forensic science is a good option. If you are more academically inclined and see a future for yourself in research and development, biotechnology would suit you more.
