Is the regular study of 10th and 11th (state board) sufficient to qualify kvpy exam?

Talking practically I would not suggest you to prepare for boards in order to clear exams like kvpy. If you would see the question paper of kvpy then you will find that they ask for the whole syllabus far before your college takes the final test of 11th. Also the toughness of the question is good and if you'll prepare for only boards then you may not clear it. So prepare for JEE level and then you can be sure about kvpy.

IISc Bangalore doesn’t prescribe any specific KVPY syllabus 2019 but the examination tests candidates’ analytical and critical thinking ability.

Students must refer to NCERT textbooks to Prepare for KVPY exam as they a major source.

But for clearing KVPY along with regular study one must practice more and more KVPY previous year papers which will prove as a key to success. So for KVPY preparation level must be equivalent to JEE Mains.
