Is there any chance of me to get into IIT if my SC prep rank is 973

Hi this is your preparation rank at this you will not get admission in IIT this rank for your preparation for one of you clear the exam then you can get admission in next session Glad that you are at this stage,wherein you are confused in choosing between NIT and IIT.Let us assume you didn't crack the exam conducted by them,what then? You will not be eligible at any IITs for any course.So your year will be wasted. Sometimes,its good to take that risk,but not always. I would always advise taking an NIT in this case.
