Is there any purpose and growth of biotechnology in food service industry
Hello,
In the past several years, biotechnology in the food industry has been the central theme of numerous scientific reviews, national and international symposia, and several major reference works . Reports of significant advances have come from the full spectrum of biotechnology research and development resources: universities and institutes as well as genetic “biotiques” and large food corporations. Important business alliances continue to be formed on a worldwide scale, linking advanced biotechnology research skills with large producers and marketers of food products. So there is and extravagant growth of application of biotechnology in food industry.
Hope this helps. ..
Hi Aspirant
Biotechnology in the food processing sector makes use of micro-organisms for the preservation of food and for the production of a range of value-added products such as enzymes, flavour compounds, vitamins, microbial cultures and food ingredients. The tools of food biotechnology include both traditional breeding techniques, such as cross-breeding and more modern methods, which involve using what we know about genes, or instructions for specific traits, to improve the quantity and quality of plant species. To know more about it check here http://www.fao.org/docrep/meeting/019/k6993e.pdf
So there lies scope of biotechnology in the field of food technology.
Good luck
