Yes you can take the subject you had in your graduation as an optional in UPSC , however it is not mandatory to do.

You can take any subject of your choice as an optional, provided you have good command and interest in that subject. This is because you have to do almost a re graduation in the subject you choose optional in UPSC. So be very smart and rational while selecting your subject.
