Lightly stained region of chromatin during interphase

Chromatin inside a cell can be compacted to varying degrees depending on a cells stage in the cell cycle. Inside the nucleus chromatin exists as euchromatin or hetero-chromatin. During inter phase of the cycle the cell does not divide but it undergoes a period of growth. The less compact is form known as euchromatin due to less compact packing the the region of chromatin during interphase is lightly stained. while the Hetero-chromatin stains more darkly with dyes as the hetero-chromatin is more compacted and the closely packed during the interphase.
