Hello,
There is nothing like a minimum amount of time required, rather your chances of getting into IIT depends upon how well you know the subjects. If you have good subject knowledge by studying really well during your 11th and 12th then by simply solving previous years papers, mock tests and questions you will be able to score really well. Else I would suggest that you take a year drop and prepare well and appear the next year., but still give the exam this year just for a practice.
