IIMs shortlist candidates for the interview stage based on their own criteria, which may be independent of each other. The process may include Written Ability Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interviews. Performance in the CAT examination is an important component in the admission process. IIMs may additionally use other factors such as the previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, gender and academic diversity and other similar inputs in shortlisting and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs. So to shortlist your profile, factors like your 10th marks, 12 th marks, Graduation stream and marks, work experience and other achievements are considered along with your CAT percentile. Now if you have scored 60% in your 12th, you need to really work hard in your Graduation to score as much as possible to balance the less aggregate in your 12th. Once you are shortlisted to IIM Written ability test, you have to do real good there and then is the last step for Final Interview. So every step that you take from now, is crucial. You cannot think of placements right away because that is a long way to go. Placements in IIMs are based on your Academic record but first to reach that position, you need to get into an IIM. So your goal should be able to pass all the rounds of selection process and then get into an IIM.
