To get admission into NITs, one has to first clear the required JEE Main cutoff as per his/her category. If one has cleared the required cutoff then he/she is JEE Main qualified and hence eligible to get a seat in NITs. Now the JEE Main cutoffs vary form year to year. Below I have provided the JEE Main 2019 cutoff (percentile) category wise -
- Common Rank List (CRL) : 89.75
- GEN-EWS : 78.21
- OBC-NCL : 74.31
- SC : 54.01
- ST : 44.33
- PwD : 0.11

if it is a question of percentile then it is not similar to the percentage criteria because in percentage criteria it's not a big deal if your 1% is deducted but in the percentile criteria it's matters a lot if your 0.000001 percentile is deducted because it's on the number of students who have less marks than you.
so for having admission in NIT you need to be in the safe zone for this you need to score at least 85 percentile or above.
