my daughter , from Tamilnadu, has got AIR 49827 & sc category rank 3884. will she get admission into any of the nlus? Her SC (O) tamilnadu rank is 125 and general category tamilnadu rank is 1400. Please advise. Thanks
Based on the details you have shared, your daughter’s overall All India Rank of 49,827 may appear high for General category seats, but her SC category rank and Tamil Nadu domicile significantly improve her chances. An SC category rank of 3,884 and a Tamil Nadu SC (Open) state rank of 125 puts her in a competitive position for NLUs that offer state domicile reservations.
With these ranks, she may not be able to secure admission in top-tier NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad, or NLU Delhi, as their SC cut-offs are usually much higher. However, she does have realistic chances in lower- and mid-ranked NLUs, especially where Tamil Nadu domicile or SC category seats remain vacant in later counselling rounds.
She should definitely include Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), Tiruchirappalli, as the first preference, because domicile reservation strongly works in her favour there. Apart from TNNLU, she may also be considered for NLUs such as NLU Tripura, NLU Meghalaya, NLU Sikkim, NLU Nagaland, NLU Andhra Pradesh, and NLU Odisha, particularly in later rounds or spot counselling. These universities often see movement in SC category seats after the first few counselling rounds.
It is important to understand that CLAT counselling is dynamic, and many students withdraw or shift to other institutions, which opens up seats in subsequent rounds. Therefore, she should participate actively in all counselling rounds, fill a broad preference list, and keep checking vacancy and spot round notifications. While admission is not guaranteed, her category and domicile give her a reasonable chance of securing an NLU seat, especially in the later stages of counselling.
