My father is a farmer and our overall income is less than 8 lakhs , we live with our grandfather and legally house is on his name , and right now legally we have no house am i eligible for ews our ration card is with grandfather and we considered apl because he was a govt employee so should i apllu

You may be eligible for EWS, but the fact that your income is below 8 lakh alone is not sufficient to confirm eligibility.

For Central Government EWS reservation, the family income must generally be below 8 lakh and the family must not own/possess specified assets such as:

5 acres or more of agricultural land

Residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. or more

Residential plot of 100 sq. yards or more in a notified municipality

Residential plot of 200 sq. yards or more in areas outside notified municipalities

The important point is that the EWS definition of “family” is not simply everyone living in the same house. Under the central rules, it includes the candidate, parents, minor siblings, spouse and minor children; grandparents are not included merely because the candidate lives with them.

Therefore, if the house is legally owned by your grandfather, his property is not automatically treated as your family's property merely because you live there. However, the issuing authority will verify the actual ownership, family relationship, income and property records before issuing the EWS certificate.

Similarly, the fact that your grandfather was a government employee or that the ration card is in his name does not by itself determine whether you are EWS.

Since this involves an official certificate, you should apply/check eligibility through the concerned Tehsildar/MRO/revenue authority with the relevant property and family documents. The final decision is made by the competent issuing authority after verification.
