My OBC-B rank is 1487 ,can I get chemical engineering in Jadavpur?? Please reply urgently required...
Hii dear... congrats... I would say that the role of chemical engineering has shifted, especially in my interest range, the energy sector. Chemical engineers used to be hired to work in the downstream oil/natural gas industry to do systems analysis (like deciding operating conditions for tanks, pumps, pipes, separators, etc.), and refine crude petroleum into actually usable products, like gasoline (distillation, cracking, treating, reforming, etc.). That being said, in cleantech, I have found my chemical engineering experience relevant especially in materials science, for example, with new synthesis methods to create the best performing solar cell or battery.
Trends of chemical engineering has also long been in the pharmaceutical realm, especially with drug synthesis and delivery. Other developing fields are in polymers or alloys to synthesize to material that have greater tensile strength, are more heat resistant, or maybe are more flexible or malleable. If you can dream it, you can be sure someone in the world is working on it, and it’s probably a materials scientist.
So, yeah. Future trends for chemical engineers can be in new materials synthesis, nanotechnology, life sciences, process control, clean energy, energy efficiency, ecology, etc. etc. Chemical engineering has trends everywhere, because chemical engineering science is about managing a world that’s full of resource constraints, whether it’s by optimizing processes, eliminating possible failure points, or creating new materials.
It’s an awesome field. I would highly recommend.
Best of luck.
