First of all, it would have been appreciable if you had mentioned your state of eligibility. I am saying that because if you are a student from Punjab. You might even get civil engineering in NIT Jalandhar under the Home State category (That's just one example).
Now, answering your question with very general circumstances, getting a seat in NIT under JoSAA is very difficult. Yet you still might want to once check closing ranks of NITs established in 2010, especially in NorthEast like NIT Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, etc. Also, your chances of getting a very in-demand branch are almost negligible. If you are getting a seat in any NIT it will be in branches with very less demand like BioTech, Chemical, etc. You should also try for newer IIITs as another option because a lot of IIITs actually run inside an NIT campus and can provide you same exposure. For example, IIIT Ranchi currently runs in NIT Jamshedpur while IIIT Una in NIT Hamirpur.
