my score in gate-17 EE is 403, and rank is 12335. what should be better for me? joining private college or preparing one more year.

You should not miss IIT which are the best.
So take drop and prepare for next year to score Good.

If you dont want to waste your 1 year then you can take admission in any of the good private college but if your only target is IIT then better to prepare very well this year and try for next year.
So the choice is yours, decide well.
