Hi Christopher,
Percentile is the percentage of students who are behind the candidate. For example, if you get 90 percentile score, then 90 percent of the total students who appeared for the examination are behind you. Similarly, it is possible that your son may have been ahead in mathematics but lagged behind in other subjects. Thus causing a fall in his percentile.
