My son passed 12th with 91% this year and he got 54%ile in jee mains and could not appear for WBJEE. Then please let me know, whether he can be admitted to B tech(CSE) or not.
Absolutely, your son still has options. Even with a 54 percentile in JEE Mains and not appearing for WBJEE, he can still get admission into a B.Tech CSE program, especially through private universities or colleges that offer direct admission or accept JEE scores with no specific cutoff.
Since his 12th board marks are strong at 91%, many private engineering colleges across India — and especially in West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and even some deemed universities — offer admissions based on board merit or low JEE scores. Some of these colleges conduct their own counselling or may have institutional quota seats for students who haven’t cleared WBJEE or scored high in JEE.
For example, colleges like UEM Kolkata, Brainware University, Seacom, Sister Nivedita University, and some AICTE-approved private colleges in West Bengal may admit him through management or general counselling with his 12th marks and JEE percentile. If you're open to colleges in other states, options expand further — institutes like Reva University, Ajeenkya DY Patil, Lovely Professional University, and many others allow direct B.Tech admission.
Hello,
Congratulations on your son's excellent Class 12th result. Yes, your son can still get admission to B.Tech in CSE in West Bengal, even if he didn’t appear for WBJEE. Many private engineering colleges in West Bengal accept JEE Main percentile, you can attend counselling with this percentile or you can take admission through their management quota. However, for top colleges or government seats, WBJEE or a higher JEE score is usually required.
Alternatively, if your son wants admission in better colleges or government institutes, he can take a drop year, prepare well, and appear for JEE Main and WBJEE next year.
All the best for your son’s future.
Hello
Firstly, congratulations on your son's excellent performance in Class 12 with 91%! That’s a strong academic foundation, and even though his JEE Main percentile is 54% and he missed the WBJEE, there are still good options available for pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering (CSE).
Many private universities and colleges across India offer direct admission into B. Tech (CSE) based on Class 12 marks, especially if the student has scored well in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics). Institutes like SRM, VIT, Amity, UPES, LPU , and several others consider board marks or conduct their entrance tests, so he can be admitted in CSE.
Hello Mr. Jay Kishore,
Yes he can take admission in B.Tech Computer Science (CSE) with 91% in 12th and 54 percentile in JEE Main. Although he won't be able to get admission in top NITs & IIITs with this percentile he can do the following:
- Apply to private universities like VIT, SRM, Amity or Shiv Nadar which conduct their own entrance exams or accept 12th standard (board) results.
- Look for state level counseling in other states which allow the acceptance of JEE Main scores for admission in private colleges.
- Search for reputed colleges that offer management quota seats and look to take direct admissions.
