Yes ... For all exams there is a criteria of 60%in class 12 .. and for exams like JEE the demand gets a little bit higher .. you have to score 75%in class 12 to cross the eligibility criteria .... So class 12 marks are really important in life

For admission to IIST, you General category candidates need to have at least 75% aggregate marks, while SC/ST candidates must have secured at least 65% aggregate marks with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, any language and any other subject in the qualifying exam or in 12th. These subjects will be considered for calculating aggregate marks.
