First of all, if you think that you want to be an IAS then I will suggest you to go for majors Political science or sociology as an optional.

This subjects help one to crack any government exams like UPSC, SSC CGL and State Public Comission Exams and RRB too.

This subjects are very informative and easy to understand.

I will say if you belong from Arts background then please go for it but if you are from other background like Science, I will suggest that think twice or thrice or hundred times before changing streams.

UPSCs syllabus is unrecognizable and it changes with time.

So. work hard and start reading newspaper and always motive yourself.

As you are going to start your ias preparation so you need to understand one thing that aspirants when they begin IAS preparation, are generally confused. They are unsure about how to start, and what to study. Theyhave numerous queries in their mind regarding exam eligibility, exam dates etc. Many are not sure if coaching is essential or not. It's great that you wish to apply for the UPSC exams. But to inform you Likith, UPSC conducts several exams in a calendar year like Indian Civil services exam, Combined Defence services exam etc. So can you please mention which exam of UPSC do you wish to crack?
