Hello Bandarupalli2 Aww,
Talking about ranks first :
<10k rank is pretty good to get you top branches in top NITS . ( Approx 99.2 percentile )
<15–20k rank is decent enough to get you good NITS ,you might have to compromise on branches . Or you can go for top branches in slightly lower NITS.(Approx 98 .5 percentile )
<25–30k rank it would be difficult to get in the good old NITS . Though you can get decent branches in the lower NITS.( Approx 97 percentile )
A Minimum of 96 percentile should fetch you NITS (with lowers branches and newer NITS )
.

Minimum percentile score required for getting admission in NITs depends on your category percentile.
Different categories require different percentile to qualify for JEE mains.
You can refer to the link below to know the cutoff of percentile to be secured by candidate to qualify JEE mains.
https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/jee-main-cutoff
But note only qualifying doesn't mean you will get NIT ,for NIT you need to secure a bit more marks than that of qualfying marks/percentile to get NIT.
For good NITs you need to get really good percentile ie. > 95%
Hi,
The counseling for colleges like NITs and IIITs are done through JOSAA which provides the colleges on the basis of ranks and not percentile. So it would be difficult to tell about the percentile, but you should have a rank around 30000 to get an admission in an NIT college. I'm telling you this number according to the list of this years' counseling. So at this rank, the percentile lies somewhere near 96 to 97.
I hope I was able to clear your Doubt
Thank You
Hi aspirant,
If you're from the general category to get a decent branch in Top NITs your percentile should be more than 99, whereas if you want a non-core branch in top NITs a percentile greater than 98 would fetch you admission.
For getting good a decent branch in decent NITs, your percentile should be more than 98. To get any branch in decent NITs, your percentile should be more than 97.
To get admission in lower ranked NITs like northeastern NITs, NIT Srinagar your percentile should be greater than 96.
All the best
