Please can someone say in brief the procedure for mtech admission?

Different institutes have different criteria for M.Tech admission in their institute. Each of the IIT/IISc Bangalore/ISM Dhanbad which offers M.Tech admissions 2018 will individually release their application forms and also have different admission guidelines and eligibility criteria. However, Candidates must register for the GATE Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) to participate in the process of M.Tech admissions 2018 in IITs. Admission guidelines may include eligibility criteria of the institute that the candidate has to fulfill in order to be considered for admission.
Since the eligibility criteria may differ from institute to institute, so a candidate when applying to a particular institute, it is important that the candidate goes through the institutes admission procedure and eligibility criteria thoroughly. The participating institutes ofM.Tech admissions 2018through COAP are IISC Bangalore, ISM Dhanbad, and all the IITs.

Admissions to masters programs in engineering are made using scores of theGraduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE), while those to masters programs in science are made using scores of theJoint Admission Test to MSc(JAM). Candidate needs to apply for admission individually as there is no common application procedure to these institutes.

- STAGE 2: Short-listing of the applicants
- A committee-in-charge for M.Tech admissions will prepare separate short lists for each category based on the following criteria.
- For GN and OBC applicants:

A GATE-2015 or GATE-2016 cut-off score as stipulated by the IME. In case a student applies with both the GATE-2015 and GATE-2016 scores, then GATE-2015 score will be considered.
Bachelors degree in engineering from any AICTE recognized institute/university, IITs, NITs or IIITs or a master's degree in science.
- For SC and ST applicants:

A GATE-2015 or GATE-2016 cut-off score as stipulated by the IME. In case a student applies with both the GATE-2015 and GATE-2016 scores, then GATE-2016 score will be considered.
Bachelors degree in engineering from any AICTE recognized institute/university, IITs, NITs or IIITs or a master's degree in science.
- STAGE 3: Written test and Personal Interview

Written aptitude test will be conducted for all the short listed applicants. Only those candidates whose satisfy the written test cut-off will qualify to appear for the personal interview. Cut-off marks would be different for each category.
A committee-in-charge for M.Tech admissions will conduct the personal interview to evaluate the suitability of the candidate for the program based on academic background of the applicant, his/her general academic proficiency, etc.
- STAGE 4: Merit List Preparation
- A merit list would be prepared for each category based on the aggregate score that is computed as follows:

Valid GATE Score (this would be the scaled score based on the absolute score obtained by the applicant in GATE-2015 or GATE-2016 examination)

- Applicants belonging to different categories (GN, OBC, SC, ST, (PH)) will be separately merit listed. The cut offs for different categories will be decided by the committee-in-charge for Ph.D. admissions of the IME department of IIT Kanpur. The approved norms on reservation (OBC: 27%, SC: 15%, ST: 7.5% and PH 3% horizontal across GN, SC, ST and OBC) will be observed. Please check the latest approved norms of eligibility for reservation.
You can take admission in M.tech. through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
You must have graduation degree to attempt GATE.
You can attempt GATE in any of the Engineering branch available there i.e. Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering etc.
After qualifying GATE , you will be invited for Counselling to take admission in M.Tech.
If you take admission in any AICTE UGC Approved then You will be paid approx 8000 INR as fellowship per month.
GATE form are released in month of september to october and Exam is held in January-February.
You can pursue M.Tech. from IITs, IISc Banglore, NITs, State Government Colleges as well as Private Colleges.
