Dear Aspirant,
“So, to really execute design in its highest form and making people feel joy, that’s a great reward.” – Genevieve Gorder.
Jewellery to human beings has been a cultural symbol of their origin and it is the symbol of how they love to adorn themselves since more than centuries. The course in Jewellery and accessory design deals with the subjects related to jewellery design from conceptualisation, designing, drafting, and material science, making and finishing aspects of jewellery. It helps to keep the existing trends in jewellery in the natives and internationally specific. The program teaches about all the facets of jewellery trade – from mastering, hand-rendering and casting to analyzing and appraising gemstones and acquiring computer aided design skills. The program is a good blend of design and management modules imparting essential managerial skills to the learner.
There is also a postgraduate course at NID called Lifestyle Accessory Design. It educates and trains professional designers to visualise and create lifestyle accessories and systems using different materials, processes and technologies.
It brings you closer to the life of people and the things and products they interact with on a daily basis. This includes focusing on personal and space accessories and producst such as jewellery; watches; bags; luggage; footwear; lighting; furniture, space accessories and interior objects; trend research; and colours, materials and trims for white goods and automobile interiors. The Course is not just about designing them but understanding the emotional and conceptual connection to these products and accessories.
The programme believes in bringing local to global. It strives to bring the socio-cultural and indigenous perspectives from these designs and make theft into the current global scenario. It studies the trends carried by various consumers of such products from various classes of society. It gives an insight into how life is reflected in these trends and brings the designers closer to the consumers via the product.
The designers from this programme aspire to drive the market by Designing for Changing Needs and Designing for Future Needs, and make ‘Designed in India’ a premier global brand.
Hope this helps. All the best!
