Indian Coast Guard conducts Indian Coast Guard exam for various posts. The posts available under Officer’s Scheme are - Assistant Commandant (General Duty), (Pilot/Navigator) and Assistant Commandant (Technical Branch) and posts available under Navik and Yantrik scheme are Yantrik, Navik (General Duty and Domestic Branch).
The selection procedure for Navik (GD and DB) and Yantrik are based on - Written Exam, Physical Fitness Test followed by Medical Examination whereas, for Assistant Commandant, there will be Preliminary Selection Board (PSB), Final Selection Board (FSB) followed by Medical Examination.

Indian Coast Guard final selection board is conducted at Coast Guard selection board Noida.
I am listing you about the selection procedure. Please go through it thoroughly.
- On clearing the Preliminary selection board candidates are called up at Noida for FSB.
- Candidates have choice to either live in selection board accommodation or can manage there lodging and boarding on their own. Lodging at Coast Guard selection board is free of cost however boarding cost around Rs. 200 per day.
- 1st day starts off with document verification and if any candidate had Any discrepancies in documents during PSB they are required to correct it now.After the verification is done which usually takes way too much time a brief introduction is given by an officer along with the filling of Personal Information Questionnaire form and thus the Day 1 ends.
- Day 2 has psychological test. All candidates are required to appear for Psychological test at once. All instructions are provided and is exactly the same as it is in normal SSBs. Some candidates may have Group Tasks ahead of them on the same day.
- Group tasks starts of with two group discussions on moderately difficult topics. Each Group discussion last for about 15-20 min. After the GD round starts, the Group planning exercise. Cost guard selection board does not have physical models of landscape so they use a projector for the same.In group planning exercise, a real life kind of scenario is setup with four problems in it. You have to plan accordingly and solve all those 4 problems. Then a Group discussion in which group develops concensus over a plan. Then group nominates a candidate who can stand up and narrate the plan to the Group Task Officer. Unlike other SSBs, here Group Task Officer rebuttal very much.
- After the Group Planning exercise comes the Lecturrate. Candidate is required to pick up a card in which 4 topics are written. Candidate should decide over one topic. Prepare for 3 minutes and give a lecture for 3 minutes.
- After the Group Tasks ends, next day candidates have interviews. Depending upon the officers the whole procedure could end up in 4 days or could take up to 5 days.
- Last day is the conference where all officers sit around a U-shaped table with candidate in the centre. It usually takes 2 to 3 minutes for each candidate.After that results are declared.
- Recommended candidates are required to stay back for further formalities.
Educational Qualification :
10+2 passed with 50% marks aggregate in total and minimum 50%aggregate in Maths and Physics from an education board recognized by Central/State Government. (5 % relaxation in above minimum cut off will be given for SC/ST candidates and outstanding sports personnel of National level who have obtained 1st, 2nd or 3rd position in any field sports events at the Open National Championship/ Interstate National Championship. This relaxation will also be applicable to the wards of Coast Guard uniform personnel deceased while in service).

- Physics
- Basic Chemistry
- Mathematics : Fundamental Arithmetical operations, Percentages, Ration and Proportion, Profit and Loss, Simple Interest, Average, Discount, Partnership, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Mensuration.
- English : Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting Mis-spelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage.
- Reasoning : Focus on Comprehension Reasoning, Venn Diagrams, Number Series, Coding and de-coding, Problem Solving Techniques, Statement & Conclusion type questions, arithmetic reasoning, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, syllogistic reasoning, Seating Arrangements.
- General Knowledge : Current events, History, Culture, Geography, Economics, Indian Constitution, Environmental Studies, Health and hygiene, Basics of Hindi Language, Hindi Grammar, Child welfare, Women welfare, Social welfare, Disaster Management, Sports, Literature, Science.
- Quantitative aptitude : Questions will be asked from Simplification, Average, Percentage, Time & Work, Area, profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, Time & Speed, Investment, HCF LCM, Problem On Ages, Bar Graph, Pictorial Graph, Pie Chart.
- No Negative Marking for Wrong Answer.
Note : The written examination will be of objective type, which will generally cover subjects such as Maths, Physics, basic Chemistry, knowledge of English up to 12th standard, general knowledge, current affairs, quantitative aptitude and reasoning etc.
