IIIT- Indian Institution of Information Technology
IIITs are a group of higher education in India, mainly focusing on Information Technology. They are established, funded and managed by Ministry of Human Resource Development. They may be government funded, both government + private sector funded or only private sector funded. All IIITs offer Education related to the IT fields like EC, CS, MBA, B.Tech and M.Tech, Mechanical, Engineering designing. To get admission in any of the IIITs, one needs to clear JEE Mains entrance exam with a good rank.
Government Funded are as below:
IIIT Allahabad
IIITM Gwalior
IIITDM Jabalpur
IIITDM Kurnool
IIITDM Kancheepuram
Private Sector Funded:
IIIT Bangalore
IIIT Bhuvaneshvar
IIIT Hyderabad
Both Government + Private sector funded:
IIIT - Kota, Trichy, Guwahati, Kalyani, Manipur, Lucknow.. and many more are there.
Coming to NITs- National Institute of Technology
NITs are autonomous public institutes of higher education in India. The NIT Council is the supreme governing body of India's NITs. There are 31 NITs in India- 20 of which are old and 11 are new. And all these 31 NITs are funded by Indian Government.
NITs offers bachelors, Masters and doctorate degree courses in various branches like management, science, and engineering degree courses.
Admission in UG courses like B.Tech and M.Tech are through the JEE Mains entrance exam. Whereas for PG courses, through GATE, NIMCET for MCA program, also CAT (Common Admission Test) for MBA.

The branches offered here are generally CSE, ECE, IT (Exceptions are there). Moreover, they got a brand named as Indian (like IITs, sounds great! :) ) These are 20 in numbers. There are another type of IIITs which stands for International Institute of Information Technology.
NIT stands for National Institute of Technology. These colleges deal with all branches of engineering like CSE, ECE, ME, EEE, EIE, etc. There are 31 in numbers.
