SOMNATH TEMPLE is situated in Gujarat and it is among the one of the 12 jyotirling in INDIA.

According to History MAHMOOD GHAZNAVI attacked on this temple 17 times. He looted it. The first attack was in 1026 in which he had killed 5000 people who were worshipping at that time. According to one report he trained his Army for 25 years to attack on SOMNATH TEMPLE. There was as much as amount of GOLD in this temple, MOHAMMED GHAZNAVI took more than thousands of donkey to carry Gold to his own country.

The Somnath Temple was attacked in the year 1025. It was when the prominent Muslim ruler Mahmud of Ghazni raided Gujarat. He plundered the Somnath temple and broke its jyotirlinga. He took away a booty of 20 million dinars. He was attracted to the enormous wealth of India, and so, he looted almost all the wealth stored inside the temple. This also made him repeatedly raid India. He destroyed many other temples along with the Somnath Temple.
