Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a single unified entrance test for candidates aspiring to pursue 3 year LLB, 5 year Integrated LLB and LLM. The law entrance examination is conducted annually for UG and PG programs. NLU’s conduct the national level exam on a rotational basis. The exam will be conducted on May 10, 2020.
CLAT paper consists of 5 sections:
1. English
2. Mathematics
3. General Knowledge and Current Affairs
4. Logical Reasoning
5. Legal Aptitude

National University of Study And Research In Law (NUSRL), Ranchi will conduct CLAT 2020 in offline mode tentatively on May 1, 2020. CLAT 2020 will be held at around 40 centres around the country for admitting candidates to undergraduate law programs offered by the 21 participating NLUs. The total seat intake for UG programs at the NLUs is around 2500. The application form of CLAT 2020 will be released on January 1; candidates will have around 3 months time to submit the application form. The admit card of CLAT 2020 will be released around the 2nd week of May.
The CLAT consortium has, on November 21, announced a slew of changes in the exam pattern for the new session, including reducing the number of questions to 120-150 from 200. Also, comprehension-based questions will be asked from Quantitative Techniques, English, Current Affairs, Deductive Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. The reduction in number of questions is done to reduce the mental stress on candidates, explained Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR . Also, the inclusion of comprehension based questions is aimed at attracting candidates with competence in reading texts and demonstrated skills in inferential reasoning.
CLAT 2020 result will be declared around 2nd week of June 2020. Also, apart from the 21 participating NLUs, 52 private universities as well as DBRANLU Sonipat, Haryana, will use CLAT 2020 scores for admission purpose.
Based on CLAT 2020 scores, admission will be offered to various law programs like BA LLB, B.Sc LLB, BBA LLB, B.Com LLB, and BSW LLB. The minimum eligibility criteria for appearing in the national-level exam is a 10+2 pass scoring minimum 45% marks (relaxation in minimum marks applies to reserved categories). Also, there is no upper age limit for appearing in CLAT 2020.
