It's zinc, the most durable metal plating on iron to protect against corrosion is plating of zinc metal . Actually layer of zinc over iron protects iron against corrosion as zinc is more reactive than iron and thus it react with the moisture and oxides present in the surrounding and thus zinc prevent iron from rusting and protects it and this process of coating zinc over iron to prevent from rusting of iron is called galvanization .
