Correct Answer: 10 kg
Solution :
Let the weight of the empty bucket be $x$ kg and the weight of the water be $y$ kg.
According to the question,
$x + y$ = 17-------------------------- (1)
$x + \frac{y}{2}$ = 13.5 ---------------------- (2)
Now subtract (2) from (1)
$\frac{y}{2}$ = 3.5
⇒$y$ = 7
Put the value of $y$ in (1) to get the value of $x$.
7 + $x$ = 17
or, $x$ = 10
Hence, the weight of the empty bucket is 10 kg.
