we are from valmiki community in andhra pradesh and carrying backward class certificate BC-A. Now we are going to settle in karnataka in which our community is recognized as ST can my minor son gets ST certificate?
Hello Dear Student,
Merely shifting your residence from Andhra Pradesh to Karnataka does not automatically make your son eligible for an ST certificate in Karnataka.
If your family is recognized as BC-A in Andhra Pradesh , your son will generally continue to be treated according to your family's caste status. Reservation benefits are determined by the caste's recognition in your state of origin and the applicable rules. A community recognized as ST in Karnataka does not automatically confer ST status on a family that is recognized as BC in Andhra Pradesh .
Therefore:
- Simply settling in Karnataka does not make your minor son eligible for an ST certificate.
- The Karnataka authorities will verify your family's caste status and origin before issuing any caste certificate.
- If your family believes it is actually entitled to ST status based on valid ancestral records or specific legal provisions, you should approach the Tahsildar/Deputy Commissioner in Karnataka with all relevant documents for verification.
Hope it helps!
