Bachelor of Hotel Management or BHM is an undergraduate course introducing students to the fundamentals and different facets of the hospitality sector. For securing an admission in BHM, the basic eligibility criteria 10+2 pass in any stream. The duration of this course varies from 3-4years depending on college. The tuition fee for the entire duration of the course is between INR 220,000 to 430,000in government institutions while that in private colleges may go up to INR 1,000,000.
With a BHM degree, one can choose from plenty of job profiles in both private and public sector. Some of the designations suitable for a Hotel Management graduate are hotel managers, air hostesses,flight stewards, consultants to hotels, restaurant managers, event organizers among others. For BHM, the basic eligibility is 10+2 pass. Many colleges also demand an aggregate of 50% in the same and English is also required as one of the subjects. Many colleges also have an age criteria where in upper age limit is set as twenty - two years for those belonging to the General and Other Backward Classes (OBC) category and 25 for the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.

The admission process for the entry to this course varies from college to college. The forms begin to come from as early as December with the entrance tests scheduled from April till July for different institutes. Admission may be procured through an entrance exam, direct admission or lateral entry.

Hotel Management is a good course for both boys and girls. There are government IHMs which are very good and there are some private IHMs which are also good. After this course the advantage is that you can not only fit into the hotel industry but also in corporate sector as guest relations officer, call centres, shipping , airlines, etc. jobs are good but only as good as you are and that is the case with every course. India is growing business and tourist destination and 2 lakh personnel are required for manning the hotels . So there is a requirement of good people . Earlier, there was a segregation in the types of jobs a girl can do. Most girls preferred Housekeeping and front office. But now that segregation is over. Girls are seen in the kitchen as well as food service too.
