What are the engineering courses that can be taken up by students after class 12?
Hello Rameshwaram,
There are a host of different programmes that are offered by the top engineering institutes in the country:
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Engineering Physics
- Mathematics and Computing
- Mechanical Engineering
- Textile Technology, etc.
Out of these programmes which one to select can be a bit of a headace, but it is a decision that has to be taken by you. Here are some pointers that you can rely on to narrow down on a particular programme:
Play to your strong areas : Each of the above programmes has a different curriculum, so you must check that they fall in your strond zone. Or else you have to work harder than you anticipate.
Check job prospects : Some courses are considered a safe option even though they they may not pay hefty salaries. Then there are others that pay handsomely, but there is a bit of volatility - like market may swing from one end to the other. Which one to go for?? There is also a third category - which are the laggards, but still some people study these courses. Are they wrong, or things can change in the future?
How much the course costs : Some courses, for example computer science, may cost more. So you have to decide is the extra money worth it, or you should go for some other course, or even some other institute.
Is the institute good enough ? - You, say, want to study a particular programme, and there is this institute which is ranked highly overall, but not in your chosen course. What do you do? Study at some other institute which is not ranked so high overall, but is ranked higher for the programme. Logic says that you must go for the latter.
Placement opportunities : It is a concern that is back in the minds of most students. To find out placement records of the institute, check out the institutes placement portal or talk directly to the institute. Speaking to alumni is also a good idea.
Regards.
