Every chapter must be started from its basics. If you are studying waves for jee then you must first know the common terms used in the chapter. Know about amplitude, frequency, time period and all such terms. I would recommend you to study from the ncert first to know all the basic terms used in this chapter. After reading the whole charter from ncert you may nove on to other books dedicated to jee preparation and practice questions as much as you can.
