What department can i choose for doing PG in dentistry? Which will be the best option??
Hey Vimala!
There are numerous branches in dentistry which you can pursue at PG level depending on your skills and interests. There is no ‘best’ dentistry department per se because a lot of it will depend on what exactly you want to do, whether work in a hospital or start your own practise, or what you are most passionate about.
For instance, the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery branch is considered to be well-respected because it deals with serious and complicated cases such as reconstructions or traumas requiring emergency surgery. There are those who like working with children and therefore would consider Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry as a better option. Prosthodontics and Orthodontics are well-paying branches and good for those with an aesthetic sense. Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics is considered the most active and frequently utilized branch, dealing as it does with cavities and implants.
There are also other options like Periodontics, Public Health Dentistry and Oral Pathology. Each option will ofcourse have its own pros and cons so you should pick carefully depending on whether you see yourself making a career out of it over the long term.
All the best!
