First of all, on B1 visa, one can stay upto 6 months without any interruption. After that, (s)he can continue to stay for further 6 months after renewing the B1 Visa. And if (s)he wants to ive for a longer period, then (s)he may apply for a status change using one of the forms with form no. I539, I485.

It is at the discretion of the authority, if permitted, you may also get a permanent resident status. If during the first 1 year, if (s)he marries a permanent candidate of of US, then after completing the formalities, (s)he will automatically get permanent US Citizenship.
