Thapar Institute of Engineering admits its students through 2 modes: JEE and Boards . They both account for 50% each in filling up the seats . This was done during the pandemic situation, where JEE attempts were postponed.

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala is a private Deemed to be University established in the year 1956. It is also known as TIET Patiala. The campus of Thapar University is spread over 250 acres of land. Thapar University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). NAAC has accredited the university with an 'A'+' grade. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is ranked 23rd as per the NIRF 2021 Ranking for the engineering category and 45th in the overall category. Further, the varsity has been ranked 26th in the NIRF Ranking 2021 in the university category, 42nd in the management category and 38th in the research category.

TIET Patiala offers several undergraduate, postgraduate and integrated courses. A total of 56 programmes are offered by the university.
