I would say the previous answer is wrong.
For NIT Trichy or any other NIT in Tamil Nadu
It's 1.38 lakhs a year which includes the mess fees and hostel staying fees.
But for IITs, supposedly IIT Madras.
It is a bit on the expensive side
Which is 4 lakhs a year approximately including mess and hostel staying fees.
These fees are bound to be lower in each case if you have a family income of less than 7lpa.
And there wouldn't be any fees except for hostel and mess fees if you are from the SC or ST Category.
