NDA or National Defence Academy is the Joint Services Academy of the Indian Armed Forces where cadets are trained befeor they join the Army, Navy or the Air Forces. It is located at Khadakwasla, near Pune, Maharashtra.
The admission to this institution is done by written exam, which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission, followed by a SSB interview and a medical test.
Eligibility criteria:
Nationality
- He must be a citizen of India, or
- a subject of Nepal, or
- a subject of Bhutan, or
- a Tibetan refugee, who came to India before 1 August, 1962 with the purpose of permanently settling in India, or
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries of Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, Zaire, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the purpose of permanently settling in India.
Age and marital status:
The candidate must be an unmarried male and his age must be between 16.5 years to 19.5 years.
Educational qualification:
The candidate must have passed class 12 or must be appearing for his final class 12th examination. If the candidate wants to join Navy or Air Force then he must have Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level.
Apart from these a candidate should be mentally and physically fit in all respects.
Exam pattern:
The exam is conducted offline, twice in a year by the UPSC.
The exam is objective i.e. multiple choice questions come in exam. The exam is divided into two sections, Mathematics and General Ability test and the total duration of the exam is 5 hours combining both the sections.
There are total 270 questions, 120 from Mathematics and 150 from General Ability section and the whole paper consists of 900 marks(300 for mathematics and 600 for general ability test). The cut-off marks generally lies between 325 to 340. There is negative marks for every wrong answer and the questions are of CBSE 10+2 level.
For mathematics you must have a good knowledge about topics like
- Arithmetic
- Mensuration
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Trigonometry
- Statistics, etc
From class 12 Mathematics the questions generally come from topics like
- Differential Calculus
- Integral calculus
- Differential equations
- Vectors
- Probability
- Logarithm, etc
The written test is followed by an interview which consists of 900 marks. After clearing the interview a candidate goes through a physical fitness test and finally the candidate is selected on the basis of marks obtained in written test and interview and clearing the physical fitness test.
