Percentile criteria is a relative method to calculate how you performed in an exam compared to others. In simple terms if 1000 people give an exam and in that exam you get 99 percentile. This means one percent people have scored more than you did, i.e. 100 people scored more marks than you.
The basic idea of the number that you get is to tell you what percent of the students who wrote the exam have scored below you. Another example- If you have got a 93.21%ile, it basically means that 93.21% of the students who wrote the exam have scored below you.
