Percentile in JEE Main is the relative performance of all the candidates who appeared in JEE Main in that session. It shows the percentage of candidates who scored below a given percentile. For example, if you score 90 percentile in JEE Main 2020 January session, it means that you are ahead of 90 percent students who appeared in JEE Main 2020 January session. The rank is calculated in a certain formula.
Rank= (100-percentile*total no.of candidates/100)
Taking the example of 90 percentile, the rank would be (100-90*869010/100) which is 86901. Here 869010 is the total no.of candidates who appeared in JEE Main January session. This number changes in every exam depending on the number of candidates appearing.
Hope this answer helps you.
Good luck!!
Hi
Percentile score simply indicates you the percentage of students that scored either equal or less than you.
For example, if one gets 80 percentile in his jee examination then it simply means that he has scored more than 80% of the students in the examination.
Percentile score
=( number of people behind you/total number of people in the exam)* 100
Percentile score keeps changing every year depending upon various factors like number of students that appeared in the exam, kind of marks obtained by them , toughness level of the examination etc.
Thank you
