Sedimentation is a physical water treatment process using gravity to remove suspended solids from water.
Basically, we keep the water still so that all the impurities (only big, heavy particles) settle down at the bottom of the container, this process is called sedimentation and then we can remove the water from above and separate the impurities, this process of removing water is called decantation.
