What is the best way for preparing gate..text books reading or test papers solving?

Hi, textbook reading is a must so that you are good with your concepts but for preparing with textbooks you need to start early. Also if you are aiming for a high school you need to prepare through textbooks as they will help you be prepared with all kind of topics. But at the last moment or when there are only a few days left for the exam or even just 1 month left at such a stage you should use only test papers.
